What Foods to Avoid with Braces
Certain foods can bend wires, loosen brackets, or get stuck around braces. Choosing the right foods can help protect treatment and reduce avoidable repair visits.
Foods That Can Damage Braces
Avoid hard, sticky, and crunchy foods such as ice, hard candy, popcorn kernels, nuts, caramel, and chewy candy. Cut hard fruits and vegetables into small pieces.
Foods That Are Easier During Soreness
Soft foods such as yogurt, eggs, soup, pasta, mashed potatoes, and smoothies can be easier after braces are placed or adjusted. Avoid very hot or very cold foods if they increase sensitivity.
Protecting Appliances Every Day
Follow the food guidance provided by the orthodontist. If a bracket loosens or a wire bends, contact the office instead of trying to repair it yourself.
