What Is the Best Age for a First Orthodontic Visit?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age seven. At this stage, enough permanent teeth have erupted to evaluate the bite while jaw growth may still be modified.
Why Age Seven Matters
An early evaluation can identify crowding, crossbites, eruption problems, and jaw growth concerns. It also gives the orthodontist a baseline for monitoring changes over time.
Not Every Child Needs Early Treatment
An evaluation does not automatically lead to braces. Many children are placed on a monitoring schedule and begin treatment later when the timing is better.
What Parents Should Bring
Bring any dental records or referral information and share concerns about breathing, mouth habits, crowding, bite, or previous dental treatment.
